Maya evolves into an experienced therapy dog who travels around the San Francisco Bay area, and beyond visiting retirement homes, schools, rehab centers and many other places. Maya is joined by her brother, Aiden, on the therapy visits where they spread their love and caring to everyone. Together, Maya and Aiden have over four hundred fifty visits and have seen thousands of people.
Steven and Maureen Wincor are the owners of Maya (Champion Sublime and Why Not) and Aiden (Champion Jaset’s Justification) where they live in San Jose, California. They belong to Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy and Alliance of Therapy Dogs, two nonprofit therapy pet service organizations. Both dogs were rehomed from their previous owners. They went through obedience training and passed the Canine Good Citizen test.
Their calm, loving demeanor made them ideal dogs for doing therapy work. At the time of this writing, Aiden is eleven, and Maya is ten years old. Together they have over five hundred visits. Steve Wincor is a tester/observer with Alliance of Therapy Dogs and is a board member with Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy. Maureen and Steve encourage all people with well-behaved pets to consider doing therapy work!
Maya, My Journey from Show Dog to Therapy Dog is the story of Maya’s journey from being a show dog in Texas to her new life in California.
